Platek

Beyond the Bosporus, in the Asian part of Istanbul, an imposing piece of architecture towers stands over the Üsküdar district: it is the Camlica Mosque, the largest mosque in the world. It is a place of gathering and faith, but also a monument to beauty and art, with a gallery, a library and a museum preserving artefacts of Turkish-Islamic culture. It is rich in symbolism, with six minarets representing the pillars of the Islamic faith, a dome 72 metres high, like the number of nationalities in Istanbul, and the door with the largest opening of any place of worship in the world, with its 5 x 6.5 metres.

Platek illuminates such majestic architecture, in which structural and decorative details of the Ottoman-Selgiuchid tradition combine with state-of-the-art tools and techniques. Platek products chosen for the project by lighting designer Utku Baskir and architect Haci Mehmet Guner replace those previously applied, enhance the architecture of the mosque and highlight its cultural heritage.

With a qualitative excellence equal to that of the original system, the added value of a Made in Italy production and a drastic reduction in consumption, Platek lighting for the Camlica Mosque reaches its aesthetic and emotional peak. Medio recessed was chosen to illuminate the base of the columns, the internal portico, characterised by slightly acute vaults, and the bases of the external pilasters. Thanks to its extreme versatility, the Target projector brings to life the niches that decorate the corridors and exterior domes. Strip light populates the interior domes and enhances their shapes and volumes. Through the lighting design and with the expressiveness of Platek products, the architecture of the Camlica mosque is transformed into a very harmonious environment: light acts as a bridge between indoor and outdoor, and these two dimensions embrace those who pass through the space in a unique and open emotional experience.
